For undergraduate programs, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with a minimum aggregate percentage in relevant subjects as specified by the university. Admission to postgraduate programs is open to candidates who have completed their bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum percentage as prescribed by the university. Candidates seeking admission to GNITS must appear for entrance exams such as the Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) conducted by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) for undergraduate programs, and the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for postgraduate programs. Shortlisted candidates are then called for counseling sessions, where they undergo further scrutiny based on their academic performance, entrance exam scores, and other criteria set by the institution.

The cutoff marks for admission to GNITS vary depending on factors such as the number of applicants, the availability of seats, and the performance of candidates in the entrance exams. For undergraduate programs, candidates are required to meet the cutoff marks specified by the university in the EAMCET exam. Similarly, for postgraduate programs, candidates must achieve the cutoff marks set by the university in the GATE exam. The cutoff marks are determined based on the highest score obtained by candidates in the entrance exam, and candidates meeting the cutoff criteria are eligible for further consideration during the counseling process. However, meeting the cutoff marks does not guarantee admission, as candidates are also evaluated based on other parameters such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, and personal interviews.
