The Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) stands as the pinnacle of engineering entrance exams in India. Demystifying the Exam:

  • What is it? JEE Advanced is a highly competitive national-level exam conducted annually for admissions to undergraduate engineering programs at IITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.
  • Who conducts it? The Joint Admission Board (JAB), comprising representatives from seven zonal IITs, administers the exam.
  • When is it held? Typically, the exam takes place in May, and the application window opens a few months prior.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality: Indian citizen or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder.
  • Age: Must not exceed 25 years as of July 1st of the year of admission.
  • Educational Qualification: 10+2 examination passed with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as mandatory subjects, securing at least 75% aggregate marks (65% for reserved categories).
  • Qualifying in JEE Main is mandatory for appearing in JEE Advanced.

Exam Structure:

The JEE Advanced comprises two papers:

  • Paper 1 (Morning): 3-hour duration, 3 sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with 20 MCQs and 5 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions each.
  • Paper 2 (Afternoon): 3-hour duration, 3 sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with 18 MCQs and 2 NAT questions each.

Each MCQ carries 3 marks, with negative marking (-1 mark) for incorrect answers. Each NAT question carries 4 marks, with no negative marking. The total marks for the exam are 396.
